REAL DADS
BACK TO POEM LIST

REAL DADS ARE WHAT OUR FAM'LIES NEED,
MEN OF RARE, BUT SPECIAL BREED;
MEN WITH BACKBONES MADE OF STEEL;
YET HEARTS OF GOLD THAT DEEPLY FEEL.

REAL DADS CARRY A HEAVY WEIGHT,
THAT MONEY IS MADE, NO PAYMENT IS LATE.
IF FOOD SUPPLY'S LOW OR CAR DOESN'T RUN,
DAD WON'T REST TIL WORK IS DONE.

HE'S THE GUY YOU NEVER CROSS,
HIS LEATHER BELT CURES MEMORY LOSS;
BUT HE ALWAYS KNOW WHAT'S BEST,
A LOVING HEART FILLS THAT BIG CHEST.

DAD'S THE LEADER OF THE HOME
OFTEN HE MUST STAND ALONE,
TO GUIDE US IN THE BIBLE WAY,
TEACH US TO WORK -- NOT ONLY PLAY.

WE DON'T LIKE HIS DISCIPLINE;
BUT HE'D NOT SPANK, IF WE'D NOT SIN.
DAD'S NOT LIKE SOME OTHER MEN,
NO MATTER WHAT, HE'S OUR FRIEND.

REAL DAD'S ARE RARE IN OUR DAY,
INSTEAD OF WORK, MOST WOULD PLAY.
IT TAKES A MAN TO BE A DAD;
THE KIND ALL WIMPS SHOULD HAVE HAD.

OUR WORLD'S DYING FOR LACK OF MEN
WHO'LL BE REAL DADS, AND GIVE UP SIN;
WHO'LL WALK WITH GOD, AND DO WHAT'S RIGHT
TO LEAD THEIR FAM'LIES IN THE LIGHT

WE KNOW IT'S TOUGH TO BE REAL
NOT JUST WORSHIP A DOLLAR BILL;
SO, FOR THE TRIALS THAT YOU'VE HAD
WE CROWN YOU NOW, A "REAL DAD"
